La Petite Chocolat is a boutique chocolate shop and a creative confection kitchen on Heretaunga St East in Hastings. Our mission is to provide top quality chocolate products in the most environmentally and socially responsible way. Our chocolate has purpose. We believe in achieving commercial success while doing good by inculcating a social impact culture into our business.
We hold true to our philosophy of keeping our business ethical, transparent and environmentally responsible. We import our cacao from Kaoka, an award-winning family business based in France that has been a precursor in support of organic and fairtrade since the early 1990s.
We avoid unnecessary plastic packaging and have opted for recyclable and compostable solutions. All our packaging is made in house.
We put Ethics and Values constantly at the center of our work to make sure we make a positive impact not only on your taste buds, but on the environment and the community. We are one of the two chocolate businesses in NZ with the Living Wage Employer Accreditation.
We love to work together to create value together and like to get involved where we can, by supporting charities. That is how our fundraising chocolate bars for Forest & Bird, and the Women's Refuge came into existence.
We started our small business adventure after returning to New Zealand after living in France, where Anissa trained under the wing of Paul Keruel, an 80 year old artisan chocolatier in the beautiful village of Beaufort-sur-Gervanne in the southeastern countryside. Alongside her partner in crime Joe, La Petite Chocolat had it’s debut making chocolates in a rented kitchen in what is now Rod MacDonald wines Cellar door in Te Awanga, Hawke's Bay and a self built cool store in the garage of the house they shared.
Anissa made all of our products alone by hand tempering the chocolate into simple and elegant chocolate bars and sold them at the farmers market.
Since launching, we’ve grown from our little market stall and can be found in over 50 stockists around New Zealand. Our chocolate couverture is used by some of the best New Zealand chocolatiers, confection and pastry chefs and we supply a range of products to retailers from lodges to organic shops, air bnb's to cafes and the likes. We’ve expanded our product range and have hired a Jr Chocolatier and a Sales and Marketing team to help keep our ever growing business on track.
Our team is very eclectic, each bringing in a range of special talents that make our business work in an inclusive and organic way. We come together with our love of chocolate and a passion for ethical and sustainable business practices. We embrace the artistic and creative nature of our trade and love spreading it with reckless abandon with our customers. We truly love what we do. All of our products are made by hand in our facilities including most of our packaging and labels. Anything we’re unable to do ourselves is sourced locally first.
